The Supreme Court has been informed that diplomatic negotiations are in progress to secure the release of an Indian nurse sentenced to death in Yemen. The government assured the court that there is currently no immediate threat to her life as discussions with Yemeni authorities continue.

The nurse, who hails from Kerala, was convicted in a case involving the death of a local resident. Her family has maintained that she is innocent and has appealed to the Indian government for intervention.

During the hearing, government representatives told the bench that officials are in constant touch with Yemen’s legal and diplomatic channels to explore all possible options for her release or commutation of the sentence.

The court has asked the Centre to provide regular updates on the progress of the talks and said that the matter will remain under its watch until a resolution is reached.

The case has drawn public attention and appeals from human rights groups, who have called for urgent action to ensure her safe return to India.
