Desk Correspondent , Chennai - Tamil thriller Karuppu, starring Suriya and Trisha Krishnan, released in theatres on May 14 amid huge anticipation. However, the excitement quickly turned into disappointment after the film’s early morning shows were cancelled just hours before release, leaving fans furious.
Fans who had gathered outside theatres for the first-day-first-show were left shocked after producer SR Prabhu announced around 1 AM that the 9 AM shows of Karuppu had been cancelled due to “unavoidable reasons.” The makers did not provide any detailed clarification, triggering backlash online. Many fans criticised the lack of communication and demanded clarity regarding later show timings and theatre availability in different states. Some also questioned whether the makers had announced the special screenings before resolving all clearance issues. The issue gained more attention because just a day earlier, the makers had publicly thanked newly elected Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay for granting permission for the special 9 AM shows. Production banner Dream Warrior Pictures had even shared a post celebrating the approval for the film’s early screenings.
Directed by RJ Balaji, Karuppu remains one of the most anticipated Tamil releases of the year despite the release-day chaos. While regular screenings later resumed, the sudden cancellation of the early shows sparked major outrage online, overshadowing the film’s grand opening celebrations.
