The Supreme Court has instructed the Election Commission to provide details of voters removed from Bihar’s electoral rolls by August 19. The directive came while hearing a petition raising concerns over the deletion of names from the rolls in several constituencies.
The petitioner alleged that a significant number of voters had been removed without proper verification, potentially affecting the fairness of upcoming elections. The bench noted the importance of transparency in the electoral process and said that such information should be made public in a timely manner.
The Election Commission assured the court that it would compile and release the data, adding that the removal of names was carried out in accordance with established procedures. The court, however, stressed that affected citizens should have an opportunity to review the changes and raise objections if necessary.
The matter will be taken up again after the Election Commission submits the required information, with the court keeping the focus on ensuring free and fair elections in the state
