Ananya Lohia , New Delhi - Bangladesh have recalled all-rounder Soumya Sarkar to their squad for the first Test against Australia, marking his return to the longest format after more than five years. The two-match Test series begins in Darwin on August 13.

Soumya Sarkar last played a Test in February 2021 against the West Indies and returns after being named in Bangladesh's 15-member squad, with Litton Das unavailable due to injury. Fast bowlers Nahid Rana and Shoriful Islam have also been ruled out with side strain and hamstring injuries, respectively. Rana's absence is a major setback for Bangladesh, with the Bangladesh Cricket Board estimating a recovery period of six to eight weeks. The second Test will be played in Mackay from August 22.

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto welcomed Australia's decision to field a full-strength squad, calling it a sign of respect for his team. He said the series presents a valuable opportunity for Bangladesh to test themselves against one of the world's strongest sides. Australia will be led by Pat Cummins, with Steve Smith, Travis Head, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon among the key players in the squad.
