Sonam Wangchuk Hospitalised as Police Block 'Sansad Chalo' March

Ananya Lohia , New Delhi - As Sonam Wangchuk's hunger strike entered its third week, the activist was admitted to Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital for medical evaluation, while Delhi Police denied permission for the planned "Sansad Chalo" march, citing security concerns ahead of Parliament's Monsoon Session.

The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) had called for the march to Parliament on July 20 in support of Wangchuk's ongoing protest. However, Delhi Police said the demonstration at Jantar Mantar had already exceeded its original one-day permission and warned that any attempt to march towards Parliament would be considered illegal. Officials said violators could face detention due to the sensitive security arrangements around the Parliament complex.

Meanwhile, Wangchuk was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital after the Delhi High Court directed authorities to monitor his health closely. Doctors said the climate activist is weak and mildly dehydrated due to prolonged fasting but remains in stable condition. His agitation has drawn increasing support from activists and opposition leaders, intensifying the political spotlight on the issue.

With Parliament's Monsoon Session set to begin, the standoff between protesters and authorities has deepened, as Wangchuk's health and the demand for accountability continue to dominate national attention.
