Ananya Lohia , New Delhi - Tension gripped Delhi's Jantar Mantar on Monday after police stopped the Cockroach Janta Party's proposed march to Parliament. Activist Sonam Wangchuk, who is on an indefinite hunger strike, remains admitted to Safdarjung Hospital as protests over alleged failures in the education system continue.
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) met Union Minister JP Nadda after the Centre reached out to them, reiterating three demands — Sonam Wangchuk's release, Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation, and Rs 1 crore compensation for the families of NEET aspirants who allegedly died by suicide. Wangchuk, meanwhile, said he would end his fast only if the Centre accepted responsibility for recent education system failures or MPs assured him the issue would be raised in Parliament.
Heavy security remained in place at Jantar Mantar after Delhi Police denied permission for the protest march and imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the BNSS. A brief confrontation broke out as thousands gathered at the site, while several opposition leaders, including Chandrashekhar Azad, Mahua Moitra, Prakash Raj and Shabana Azmi, visited the protest in support.
With Wangchuk's health under close watch and protests continuing despite heavy security, the standoff between the protesters and the government remains unresolved, keeping the issue firmly in the political spotlight.
Mukesh Khanna’s call to replace “Jana Gana Mana” with “Vande Mataram” has sparked debate over India’s national symbols and the history behind them.
PM Modi warned against what he called “dimaagi Naxals,” urging their identification and isolation, while the Congress criticised the remarks as politically motivated.
