Sonam Wangchuk Fast Enters 20th Day as Health Worsens

Ananya Lohia , New Delhi -  Concern over activist and educationist Sonam Wangchuk's health continues to grow as his indefinite hunger strike entered its 20th day on Friday. Three student activists fasting alongside him have also reached a critical stage, prompting fresh concerns over their condition.

Wangchuk, who joined the protest at Jantar Mantar on June 28, has lost nearly 9.5 kg, with his weight now down to 56.55 kg. Doctors have warned that prolonged fasting could lead to organ damage, although he remains mentally alert. The Delhi High Court has directed authorities to monitor his health daily and provide medical assistance if required. However, Wangchuk has refused to end his fast, saying he will continue until the government responds.

Meanwhile, AISA leaders Neha Bora, Manish and Aameen have continued their hunger strike demanding Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation over alleged exam irregularities. Doctors say all three are in a high-risk condition, with Neha's blood sugar dropping to a dangerous level, Aameen facing dehydration-related complications and Manish losing over 10 per cent of his body weight. Despite worsening health, the protesters have vowed to continue their agitation.

With the protesters' health deteriorating and no response from the Centre, the agitation at Jantar Mantar continues to gain nationwide attention, intensifying calls for dialogue and a resolution.
