Ananya Lohia , New Delhi - Activist Sonam Wangchuk ended his 26-day hunger strike late Thursday night at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram after high-level talks with the Centre. Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh were present as he broke his fast.
Announcing the decision on X, Wangchuk said he ended his fast after prolonged negotiations with the government and senior leaders of the Apex Body of Leh Ladakh. He revealed that 65 Members of Parliament from different parties had urged him to end the protest and said he would soon disclose the conditions discussed during the talks. He also appealed to people across the country to maintain peace and prevent any form of violence.
The development came hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the Union Cabinet would discuss a bill proposing fast-track courts and stricter punishment for those involved in paper leaks. The Prime Minister said several accused had already been arrested, a re-examination for over 22 lakh students had been conducted, and the government was moving to strengthen the law. While PM Modi wished Wangchuk a speedy recovery, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke thanked him for his sacrifice but said the party's agitation would continue until Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns.
The CJP-led protest over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak, which began on June 20, is set to continue, with the party calling for peaceful demonstrations across the country.
Mukesh Khanna’s call to replace “Jana Gana Mana” with “Vande Mataram” has sparked debate over India’s national symbols and the history behind them.
PM Modi warned against what he called “dimaagi Naxals,” urging their identification and isolation, while the Congress criticised the remarks as politically motivated.
