Kamal Haasan, leader of Makkal Needhi Maiam, has said that large turnouts at political rallies don’t necessarily translate into votes. He made the comment in response to criticism of actor-politician Vijay’s shows, where huge crowds have been gathering.

When asked whether Vijay’s big crowds will automatically mean electoral success, Haasan replied, "It is for sure, it will not get converted into votes, it is applicable to all leaders."  He stressed that the same applies to him as well: drawing a crowd is one thing; turning that crowd into voters is another.

Haasan also offered some advice to Vijay, who has recently entered politics and is heading the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). He urged him to stay on the right path, act with courage, and work with sincerity for the people.  Despite criticisms, Vijay had asked his supporters at a September 20 rally in Tiruvarur whether the gathering could be considered an "empty crowd." The response from people chanting his name was loud and affirming, which was taken by many as a show of support.

In short, Kamal Haasan’s message was clear: popularity at public events is not the same as votes, and leaders should focus more on substance, consistency, and connecting with people rather than just drawing big crowds.
