New Delhi — India batter Shreyas Iyer has hit back at critics questioning his place in the team, stressing that he brings significant value as a captain and a player. The 29-year-old, who was left out of India’s Asia Cup squad, has been handed the responsibility of leading India A in the upcoming multi-day matches against Australia A.
Speaking on the criticism he has faced in recent months, Iyer said he was confident about his role and contributions. “I offer a lot as captain. Wasn’t fully in the mix, but whenever given the opportunity, I have delivered,” he remarked, underlining his leadership experience across formats.
Iyer has previously led Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL), guiding them to their maiden final in 2020. He has also captained India in age-group cricket and is often praised for his calm on-field presence and tactical awareness.
