Ananya Lohia , New Delhi - India have suffered a setback in their Women's T20 World Cup campaign, with off-spinner Shreyanka Patil ruled out of the remainder of the tournament due to an ankle injury. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has approved Prema Rawat as her replacement in the squad.
Shreyanka sustained the injury while fielding during India's group-stage match against the Netherlands on Wednesday. Although she received treatment on the field, she was unable to continue, and further assessment confirmed that she would miss the rest of the competition. In an official statement, the ICC confirmed that the Event Technical Committee had approved Rawat's inclusion after Shreyanka was ruled out with a right ankle injury. The 24-year-old Rawat, who was already in England with the India A setup, will now join the senior squad for the remainder of the tournament.
Rawat is yet to make her international debut but has impressed with consistent performances in domestic cricket. She starred in the Women's Asia Cup Rising Stars tournament, claiming eight wickets for India A at an average of 9.62, and has also featured for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Women's Premier League. Shreyanka's absence comes as a significant blow to India's spin attack, especially after her recent return from injury. She played a key role in India's win over Pakistan, conceding just 17 runs in three economical overs.
India will now look to adjust their bowling combination ahead of a crucial group-stage encounter against South Africa on June 21 at Old Trafford, with Rawat set for a potential opportunity to make her mark on the biggest stage.
