Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has registered a case against actor Shilpa Shetty, her husband Raj Kundra, and an unidentified individual for allegedly defrauding a local businessman of ₹60.4 crore. The complaint alleges the fraud occurred in connection with a loan-cum-investment arrangement linked to Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd, a company previously operated by the accused but now defunct.
According to the FIR, the complainant claims that the accused promised lucrative returns on the investment but failed to deliver, leading to significant financial loss. The alleged deal involved both monetary loans and investment commitments, which, the complainant says, were not honored as per the agreement.
The EOW is investigating the financial transactions and the circumstances under which the funds were obtained. Statements from the complainant and potential witnesses are being recorded, and police are examining company documents and bank records to determine the money trail.
Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd, a home shopping television channel launched in 2015, ceased operations a few years later due to financial difficulties. The complainant alleges that the company’s closure and the accused’s actions left him unable to recover his funds.
No arrests have been made so far, and the accused are expected to be called in for questioning. Police officials stated that further legal action will depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
The case has drawn public attention due to the involvement of high-profile personalities from the entertainment and business sectors.
