Mumbai witnessed widespread disruption on Saturday as continuous heavy rainfall led to severe waterlogging across several parts of the city. Key low-lying areas, including Sion, Kurla, Dadar, and Andheri, were submerged, making road travel difficult and forcing many commuters to remain stranded.
Local train services, considered the lifeline of the city, were also affected as rainwater inundated multiple tracks on the Central and Western Railway lines. Several trains were delayed or cancelled, adding to the inconvenience of office-goers and passengers. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reported that pumping stations were working at full capacity, but the intensity of the downpour made drainage slow.
Authorities issued advisories urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel. Schools in some areas were closed as a precaution, while emergency teams were deployed to assist those stuck in flooded zones.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued heavy rainfall for the next 24 hours, with the possibility of very heavy showers in isolated pockets. Civic officials have asked citizens to remain alert, as more waterlogging and traffic snarls are expected if the rains persist.
