Ananya Lohia , Mumbai - An eight-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a building security guard inside a restroom in the Pydhonie area of South Mumbai. The victim is currently undergoing medical treatment at a hospital. Police officials confirmed that the accused was swiftly arrested shortly after the family lodged a formal complaint.
While hundreds of people gathered outside the Pydhonie police station, briefly blocking the main road and disrupting traffic before being dispersed. Some protesters also surrounded Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar when he visited the police station after learning about the incident and raised slogans seeking strict action against the accused.
Pawar criticised the lack of swift legal outcomes and urged the immediate execution of the Shakti Act, which legislates severe penalties for heinous sexual crimes. The lawmaker referenced the recent Nasrapur case in Pune, where Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis highlighted that a 65-year-old perpetrator received a triple death sentence within 60 days of the crime.
The accused remains in police custody as the investigation continues. The incident has intensified calls for swift justice and stronger measures to ensure the safety and protection of children.
