Actor Saswata Chatterjee has clarified that he is not connected to the controversy surrounding filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri’s upcoming project The Bengali Files. The actor, widely known for his diverse performances in Bengali cinema and Bollywood, said he had no role in the film’s conceptualization or the recent debate about its title.
Chatterjee revealed that when the project was initially discussed, it was presented to him under a different title, The Delhi Files. According to him, the change to The Bengali Files happened much later, and he was not informed about the storyline or the reasons behind the altered title. “I was told about a film titled The Delhi Files. I don’t know anything about why the name was changed or what the story is,” he explained.
The clarification comes amid rising discussions about the film’s title, which has drawn criticism from some quarters for its potential to spark political and cultural debates. Chatterjee emphasized that his involvement ended at the early stage and that he has no further knowledge of the project.
Vivek Agnihotri, known for The Kashmir Files and The Vaccine War, has not issued a detailed statement on the title change. The controversy has gained traction on social media, where reactions remain divided.
By distancing himself, Chatterjee sought to put an end to speculation linking him to the unfolding debate, reiterating that he was not associated with the project’s development or narrative direction.
