Political figures from other parties echoed the view that such gestures humiliate the nation and questioned whether Pakistan should have been given the platform to perform those acts.
While India won the match by six wickets, the controversy has overshadowed the sporting result for many. The incident renewed calls for stricter norms around player behaviour, and whether matches between countries with strained relations should be allowed under certain “gesture guidelines.”
