Russia Unleashes One of Biggest Attacks on Kyiv in Four Years

Swapna Kumbar , Bengaluru - Kyiv came under one of the heaviest Russian aerial assaults since the war began after Moscow launched a massive overnight barrage of missiles and drones targeting the Ukrainian capital and surrounding regions. Ukrainian officials described the attack as one of the longest barrages in four years, with air raid sirens, explosions, and fires reported across multiple districts as defense systems scrambled to intercept incoming strikes.

According to our reports, Russia fired waves of cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, and Iranian made Shahed drones in a coordinated overnight assault aimed at critical infrastructure and military linked sites in Kyiv. Air defense systems managed to intercept many of the incoming projectiles, but debris from destroyed missiles reportedly caused fires, damaged residential buildings, and injured civilians in several parts of the city. Power disruptions and transportation delays were also reported as emergency crews rushed to affected areas. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Moscow of deliberately escalating attacks to pressure Kyiv ahead of renewed diplomatic discussions involving Western allies and ceasefire efforts.

Military analysts say the scale and duration of the barrage indicate Russia may be intensifying its strategy of overwhelming Ukrainian air defenses through simultaneous drone and missile waves. The attack comes amid growing uncertainty surrounding international military aid, ongoing battlefield pressure in eastern Ukraine, and fragile ceasefire discussions backed by global mediators. Western leaders strongly condemned the strikes, while NATO officials warned that continued attacks on civilian infrastructure risk worsening the humanitarian crisis across Ukraine.

The latest assault on Kyiv highlights the continuing intensity of the Russia-Ukraine war despite repeated diplomatic efforts to reduce hostilities. As both sides prepare for possible new negotiations, the scale of Russia’s latest barrage underscores how far the conflict remains from a lasting resolution.
