Police have booked 27 activists linked to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in connection with the incident. Officials said the case was registered for attempting to disrupt communal harmony and misuse of a cultural festival for political messaging.
The pookalam was displayed at the temple premises during the annual Onam festivities, a time usually marked by traditional cultural programs and community gatherings. However, the inclusion of the controversial phrase sparked protests and sharp criticism from local political parties.
Authorities have urged people to avoid creating divisions during festivals that are meant to celebrate unity and tradition. Investigations are ongoing, and further action will depend on the findings.
