Desk Correspondent , New Delhi - In a major development today, a Delhi court has refused to take action on a chargesheet filed against senior Congress leaders Sonia and Rahul Gandhi. The case, known as the National Herald matter, involves allegations of money laundering. However, the judge decided that the current charges were not filed according to the correct legal procedure. This decision has provided a significant temporary relief to the Gandhi family.

Special Judge Vishal Gogne explained that the law does not allow him to move forward with the charges at this stage. He pointed out that the ED’s complaint was based on a private person's report rather than a standard police report or FIR. Because of this technical reason, the court said it could not summon the Gandhis or start a trial right now. The judge made it clear that following proper legal steps is essential for any prosecution.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had claimed that the Gandhis used their company to take over assets worth over ₹2,000 crore in an illegal way. On the other hand, lawyers for the Gandhis argued that they were only trying to save a historic newspaper that was struggling with debt. While the ED can still bring more arguments to the court later, this ruling is a hurdle for the investigative agency’s current plan.
