Ananya Lohia , Kolkata - Rath Yatra celebrations were held with great devotion across West Bengal on Thursday as thousands of devotees gathered despite heavy rain. Senior leaders and devotees participated in the grand festivities organised at various locations across the state.
Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari joined the ISKCON Rath Yatra in Kolkata, where he ceremonially pulled the ropes of the chariot and offered prayers for peace and prosperity. He also performed the Mangal Arati and said he was honoured to be part of the sacred festival. Meanwhile, the state government announced that ISKCON will be associated with the midday meal programme in parts of West Bengal from August 1.
Grand Rath Yatra processions were also organised in Mahesh, Digha, Nadia, Bankura, Purulia and Siliguri, with lakhs of devotees taking part. Tight security arrangements were put in place across major venues as the festival also marked the beginning of Durga Puja preparations with the traditional Khuti Puja.
From Kolkata to Digha and Mahesh, Rath Yatra celebrations reflected the spirit of faith and tradition, drawing thousands of devotees and ushering in the festive season across West Bengal.
