Ananya Lohia , Ayodhya - The controversy surrounding alleged irregularities in donations to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya intensified on Friday with the arrest of eight people linked to the temple management, the recovery of nearly ₹80 lakh in cash, and the reported resignations of two prominent members of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.

The case gained momentum after Uttar Pradesh Police registered an FIR against eight individuals, including Ram Shankar Yadav, an aide of trust general secretary Champat Rai. The accused have been charged with offences including criminal breach of trust, cheating, theft and conspiracy. Following a preliminary SIT probe, police arrested all eight accused and recovered nearly ₹80 lakh in cash from seven of them. A court has remanded them to judicial custody as investigators examine the alleged diversion of temple donations and trace the money trail. 

Amid the controversy, Rai and trust member Anil Mishra reportedly resigned, with sources saying Rai stepped down to ensure a fair investigation while denying any wrongdoing. The probe was launched after allegations surfaced that crores of rupees from devotees' offerings had been siphoned off. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath assured strict action, while Akhilesh Yadav demanded accountability in the case.

With arrests made, cash recovered and a wider probe underway, the alleged donation scam has become one of the most significant controversies linked to the Ram Temple trust. Investigators are now expected to trace the money trail and determine the full extent of the alleged misappropriation.
