Jaipur - Rajasthan High Court Directs Removal of Stray Animals from City Roads. The Rajasthan High Court has directed authorities to launch special drives for the removal of stray dogs and other animals from city roads, ensuring the process is carried out with care. The order aims to improve road safety, reduce accidents, and maintain public hygiene in urban areas.
According to the directive, municipal bodies and related agencies must take immediate action to identify and remove stray animals from busy streets. The court stressed that the operation should be humane, avoiding any harm to the animals. Captured animals will be relocated to designated shelters where they will receive food, medical attention, and proper care.
The decision comes amid rising concerns over the increasing number of stray dogs, cattle, and other animals wandering in cities, posing risks to pedestrians, motorists, and themselves. Reports of road accidents and animal attacks have prompted calls for stronger measures to address the situation.
Municipal teams, along with animal control staff, have already begun operations in some parts of the state. Workers are using cages and transport vehicles to safely capture and transfer animals. Police personnel are assisting to ensure smooth execution and minimal disruption to traffic.
Animal welfare groups have welcomed the court’s emphasis on humane treatment but have also urged authorities to implement long-term solutions such as sterilization drives, vaccination programs, and public awareness campaigns.
The High Court has instructed regular monitoring of the initiative and submission of progress reports, underscoring that the safety of both humans and animals must remain the top priority.
