Ananya Lohia , Kolkata - After days of rising temperatures and humid conditions, there’s finally some relief in sight for residents across the state. The weather department has predicted a change in conditions starting next week, with rainfall expected to bring down temperatures significantly.
According to the latest forecast, light to moderate rainfall is likely to occur in the northern districts, especially in North Bengal. Areas such as Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, and Alipurduar may experience scattered showers accompanied by cloudy skies and occasional gusty winds. In South Bengal, while widespread rainfall is not expected immediately, isolated showers and thunderstorms may begin to develop as moisture levels increase. The change in weather pattern is being attributed to favourable atmospheric conditions and moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal. Meteorologists have also indicated that the rainfall activity could intensify gradually, helping reduce the ongoing heat and providing much-needed relief to people struggling with high temperatures. Meanwhile, light rain or thundershowers are expected in Kolkata, Howrah, and Hooghly initially, increasing to light to moderate rainfall by April 29 and April 30. Thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds up to 30–50 kmph, are intermittently expected throughout the week. Similarly, Puraba and Paschim Bardhaman, Birbhum, Murshidabad, and Nadia may see frequent thunderstorms from April 25, becoming more widespread midweek. Wind speeds in some areas may reach 50-60 kmph.
In the coming days, West Bengal, currently under heat stress, is expecting widespread thunderstorms; South Bengal may see relief from heat after April 27; and North Bengal may remain under a prolonged spell of rain throughout the week. With rain clouds set to move in, the coming week promises a welcome break from the heat. While North Bengal prepares for consistent showers, residents in other parts of the state can also expect cooler and more comfortable weather conditions soon.
