Ananya Lohia , New Delhi - PV Sindhu etched her name into the history books on Sunday by becoming the first Indian to win a BWF Super 750 title, defeating world No. 3 Akane Yamaguchi 21-17, 21-17 in the Japan Open final.

The 31-year-old produced a dominant display to claim her first major BWF title since winning the World Championships in 2019. The victory also marked her first tournament title since the Syed Modi International in 2024 and ended a long wait for a top-level triumph. Sindhu fought back from an early deficit in the opening game before sealing the match in straight games.
