Punjab Police have arrested five people and seized 4.2 kilograms of heroin in three separate operations carried out across border districts. The action comes as part of the state’s ongoing efforts to curb drug smuggling, which has been a major concern in regions close to the international boundary.
According to officials, the operations were conducted after receiving specific intelligence inputs. Raids were carried out in different villages and towns where police teams intercepted suspects and recovered the narcotics. The seized heroin is believed to have been smuggled in from across the border through illegal networks.
The accused have been taken into custody, and preliminary investigations suggest they were part of a larger drug supply chain. Police said they are trying to trace the source of the heroin and identify other people connected with the smuggling racket. More arrests are likely in the coming days.
Authorities highlighted that this seizure is another example of how drug syndicates are targeting Punjab’s border areas. They also pointed out that the police, with support from central agencies, have intensified surveillance along vulnerable stretches to prevent narcotics from entering the state.
The Director General of Police praised the teams involved and assured that strict action will be taken against drug traffickers. He appealed to the public to remain vigilant and inform the police about any suspicious activities.
Officials added that all five suspects will be produced in court, and investigations are underway under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
