Punjab Police have seized a large cache of weapons in Fazilka district, arresting two men in connection with the case. The recovery included 27 pistols and 54 magazines, which were suspected to have been smuggled into the state for illegal activities.
Officials said the operation was carried out after receiving a tip-off about possible weapon movement in the border area. Acting on the information, police teams set up a special checkpoint and intercepted two suspects traveling with the consignment. During the search, the pistols and magazines were found hidden in a bag.
Investigations revealed that the weapons were likely brought from across the border using organized smuggling networks. Police suspect that the consignment was meant to be delivered to criminal gangs operating in Punjab and nearby states. Authorities are now trying to identify the larger network involved and trace the source of the arms.
Senior police officers said the arrests mark a significant breakthrough in efforts to curb the circulation of illegal weapons in the region. They added that Punjab Police have been on high alert due to repeated attempts by anti-social elements to push arms and drugs into the state through border districts.
The accused are being questioned to gather more details about their handlers and possible future consignments. Police confirmed that further raids are likely as part of the ongoing investigation. Both arrested men will be produced in court, and cases have been registered under the Arms Act.
