Police have made three arrests so far in connection with the case.  The victim is hospitalised, described as being in “stable” condition, and has already recorded her statement with authorities.  A four-member team from the National Commission for Women (NCW) is involved and has demanded an action taken report from the West Bengal police within five days.

The student’s family has named the friend who accompanied her and some of his associates in their FIR, though not all could be identified yet.  Students at the medical college have staged protests, accusing campus authorities of inaction and negligence.  The case has also sparked political reactions, with Odisha’s Chief Minister calling for strict action and opposition parties demanding a fair and transparent probe.

As investigations unfold, authorities are examining CCTV footage, forensic evidence, and all angles of the survivor’s complaint to bring the perpetrators to justice.
