Desk Corrsepondent , Bhopal — The Bhopal Police on Wednesday urged the family of a 33-year-old woman from Noida, found dead inside her marital home on May 12, to take possession of her body due to fears of decomposition. The Katara Hills police station house officer sent a letter to the victim's father, stating that AIIMS Bhopal, where the body is currently kept at minus four degrees Celsius, lacks the ultra-low temperature facilities (minus 80 degrees Celsius) required for long-term preservation. Police stated they have "no objection" to a second autopsy, but noted that the final decision rests with a local court, which held a hearing on Wednesday regarding the family's request for a repeat examination.

The woman married Bhopal-based advocate Samarth Singh in December 2025 and died barely five months later. Her family has accused her husband and mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, of mental harassment, abuse, and dowry pressure, leading to a police FIR under charges linked to dowry death. The victim’s family moved the court seeking a second post-mortem due to alleged lapses in the initial probe and a three-day delay in filing the FIR. They also expressed concerns that the mother-in-law's sister, a local surgeon, could influence a new autopsy if conducted in Bhopal, and claimed that initial reports failed to properly document certain injury marks.

The initial autopsy report from AIIMS Bhopal concluded the cause of death was "antemortem hanging by ligature," noting she was found hanging from a gymnastic ring rope on May 12. While it detailed classic signs of asphyxia, the report also recorded several simple injuries caused by blunt force on various parts of her body.
