Ananya Lohia , New Delhi - Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday announced the setting up of fast-track courts to ensure swift punishment for those involved in paper leak cases, calling the welfare of students the government's top priority. However, the announcement drew mixed reactions, with the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) and Opposition leaders insisting that systemic reforms and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan remain their primary demands.

In a post on X, PM Modi said strict action would be taken against those responsible for paper leaks and directed authorities to establish fast-track courts to protect students' interests. Union ministers, including Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh and Nirmala Sitharaman, welcomed the decision, while the University of Delhi also praised the move and appealed to activist Sonam Wangchuk to end his hunger strike.

The announcement, however, failed to satisfy the CJP and Opposition parties. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke criticised the Prime Minister for responding after 34 days and accused the government of shielding Dharmendra Pradhan. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi alleged that the Centre had failed to protect the education system, while leaders from Congress, AAP and TMC argued that fast-track courts alone would not address the root causes of recurring paper leaks and demanded accountability at the highest level.

As protests continue across the country over alleged examination irregularities, the Centre's announcement has intensified the political debate, with the government highlighting legal action against offenders while protesters and Opposition leaders continue to push for education reforms and ministerial accountability.
