Swapna Kumbar , Bengaluru - Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Prambanan Temple in Indonesia, the country’s largest Hindu temple complex, during his trip. The visit spotlighted the long cultural links between India and Indonesia, especially their shared Hindu heritage.

Prambanan is a 9th-century Hindu temple complex on Java and is widely regarded as Indonesia’s most important Hindu site. The complex is famous for its towering stone shrines and detailed carvings, including Ramayana-themed panels that reflect the temple’s religious and artistic significance. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most visited heritage landmarks in the country.

Reports said Modi’s visit was also tied to broader India-Indonesia outreach, including cultural, maritime and defence cooperation. The tour underscored how heritage can be used as a diplomatic bridge, especially between two countries that share deep historical and civilizational connections across the Indian Ocean.

Modi’s stop at Prambanan was more than a sightseeing visit; it was a symbolic gesture of India’s cultural diplomacy in Southeast Asia. The temple’s scale, age and Ramayana artwork make it a powerful reminder of the long Hindu influence in Java.
