Prime Minister Narendra Modi chose to travel by road to Churachandpur instead of taking a helicopter during his visit to Manipur. The journey, which took around one and a half hours, was part of his first trip to the state since the outbreak of violence in 2023.
Officials said the decision was taken due to weather conditions and security considerations. Modi’s convoy moved under tight protection as thousands of security personnel were deployed along the route.
In Churachandpur, the Prime Minister met community leaders, officials, and victims of the violence. He assured the people that the central government is committed to restoring peace and rebuilding trust among communities.
The visit came at a time when tensions in Manipur remain sensitive, with displaced families still waiting for rehabilitation. Modi’s decision to travel by road instead of air travel was seen as a signal of accessibility and determination to directly engage with affected areas despite challenges.
Political observers believe the visit is aimed at sending a strong message of reassurance and solidarity with the people of Manipur.
