PM Modi Relieved Trump, Melania Safe After WH Dinner Shooting

Swapna Kumbar , Bengaluru - Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed profound relief upon learning that US President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and Vice President JD Vance are safe following a shooting incident at the White House Correspondents' Dinner in Washington, D.C. In a statement on X, Modi strongly condemned the act of violence, emphasising that violence has no place in a democracy and extending best wishes for their continued safety and well being. The message joins a chorus of global leaders reacting to the security breach at the high profile annual gala.

Modi's post read: "Relieved to learn that President Trump, the First Lady and Vice President are safe and unharmed following the recent security incident at a Washington DC hotel. I extend my best wishes for their continued safety and well being. Violence has no place in a democracy and must be unequivocally condemned". The incident involved gunshots heard at the Washington Hilton during the dinner attended by political leaders, journalists, and celebrities, prompting immediate evacuation of top officials. No injuries were reported among attendees, with the suspect a California tutor and programmer taken into custody. The Indian PM's swift response underscores the strong personal rapport between Modi and Trump, highlighted by past joint initiatives and mutual praise. Global figures including Japan's Sanae Takaichi and others echoed similar sentiments of condemnation and relief.

PM Modi's statement not only conveys solidarity with America's leadership but reaffirms India's commitment to democratic values amid rising political violence. By condemning the attack unequivocally, Modi positions India as a voice for restraint and civility in turbulent times, while his personal well wishes to Trump strengthen bilateral ties at a moment of crisis.
