Desk Correspondent , Chennai - The IPL 2026 playoff race is heating up as Chennai Super Kings take on Lucknow Super Giants in a crucial clash in Chennai on Sunday. With both teams desperate for two vital points, the contest could significantly impact the playoff picture.
CSK currently sit sixth on the points table with 10 points from 10 matches and have regained momentum after a shaky start to the season. The five-time champions have won three of their last four games and are now pushing hard for a late playoff surge. Their confidence has also been boosted by the fact that no side has yet secured a top-four finish, keeping the race wide open. LSG, meanwhile, are struggling at the bottom of the standings after a disappointing campaign. Though still mathematically alive in the playoff race, the team now faces a near must-win situation in every remaining game while also depending on favourable results elsewhere. Injury concerns and inconsistent performances have further complicated their season. Ahead of the clash, LSG bowling coach Bharat Arun backed skipper Rishabh Pant, saying he is “just one innings away” from returning to his best form. On the other side, CSK bowling coach S Sriram praised the spin duo of Akeal Hosein and Noor Ahmad for their tactical understanding and strong partnership.
With rain also threatening to play spoilsport in Chennai, both teams will hope for a full game in what promises to be a high-pressure encounter. As the IPL 2026 playoff battle enters a decisive phase, every point now carries massive importance for both CSK and LSG.
