Ananya Lohia , New Delhi -  Congress leader Pawan Khera on Friday met activist Sonam Wangchuk at Jantar Mantar and appealed to him to end his indefinite hunger strike, citing concerns over his deteriorating health. Wangchuk has been fasting to demand the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the fr alleged NEET-UG 2026 exam irregularities.

After meeting Wangchuk, Khera said peaceful protest is a constitutional right and that it is the government's responsibility to engage with citizens instead of ignoring their concerns. He criticised the Centre for its alleged indifference towards the protesters' demands and urged Wangchuk and the other fasting activists to call off their strike, saying a movement is strengthened by its people staying alive.

Meanwhile, Wangchuk's hunger strike entered its 20th day, with doctors warning that his condition has entered a critical stage. His weight has dropped to 56.55 kg, nearly 9.5 kg since the fast began, while doctors cautioned that prolonged fasting could lead to organ involvement.

As Wangchuk's health continues to deteriorate, the protest is drawing increasing political support and legal attention, while pressure mounts on the Centre to respond to the demonstrators' demands and ensure the activist's well-being.
