Punjab Congress leader Pargat Singh has urged the central government to take immediate action on reports that some Indians are being recruited to serve in the Russian military. He said that such developments are worrying, especially for Punjab, where many young people often look for opportunities abroad.
According to Singh, several families have raised concerns that their children, who went overseas in search of jobs, have instead been misled and drawn into dangerous situations linked to the ongoing war. He added that this issue must not be ignored as it directly affects the lives and safety of Indian citizens.
He demanded that the Ministry of External Affairs step in urgently and hold discussions with Russian authorities to stop any further recruitment of Indians. Singh also suggested strict monitoring of agents and middlemen who promise overseas jobs but exploit people.
The Congress leader stressed that the government must provide clarity and reassurance to the families who are worried about their loved ones. He said that every possible effort should be made to ensure the safe return of Indians who may already be caught in such circumstances.
Calling the situation serious, Singh underlined that no Indian should be dragged into conflicts that do not concern the country. He insisted on strong diplomatic measures to protect citizens and to send a clear message that India will not tolerate such exploitation.
