Swapna Kumbar , Bengaluru - Palestinian Ambassador to India Abdullah M Abu Shawesh has said India fully deserves a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council. He argued that the UN body should include major countries at the helm to better reflect global realities.

The ambassador’s remarks add to the long-running international support for India’s bid for permanent membership of a reformed Security Council. His comments suggest that India’s growing diplomatic weight, economic scale, and global role are being recognized beyond its traditional partners.

India has repeatedly pushed for UN Security Council reform, saying the current structure no longer reflects present-day power balances. Support from countries and envoys across regions strengthens New Delhi’s case, especially as it continues to campaign for a larger role in global decision-making.

The Palestinian envoy’s statement is also significant because it comes from a country with its own long-standing engagement with India and the wider UN system. By backing India, he underlined the argument that the Security Council needs greater representation from influential states in Asia and the Global South.

The endorsement adds fresh diplomatic weight to India’s permanent UNSC ambition. It reinforces the view that reform of the Council remains central to making the UN more representative and effective.
