Pakistan’s Munir Steps Into Iran Truce Push as Trump Netanyahu Rift Deepens

Swapna Kumbar , Bengaluru - Fresh diplomatic and political tensions are emerging around the US-Iran conflict as Pakistan’s Army Chief General Asim Munir is expected to play a larger role in ongoing ceasefire and negotiation efforts. At the same time, reports from US and Israeli media claim Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu  often referred to by his nickname Bibi was left deeply frustrated and concerned after a difficult phone conversation with President Donald Trump regarding the future direction of the war. The developments highlight growing disagreements within the US-Israel alliance even as mediators race to prevent a wider regional conflict.

According to our reports, Pakistan has emerged as one of the key backchannel mediators attempting to preserve the fragile US-Iran ceasefire and revive negotiations over sanctions relief, uranium enrichment, and regional security arrangements. General Asim Munir has reportedly held discussions with both American and Iranian officials in recent weeks, while Islamabad continues coordinating with Gulf countries including Qatar and Saudi Arabia to prevent renewed fighting. Analysts say Pakistan’s growing involvement reflects its strategic ties with both Washington and Tehran, as well as concerns that another major war in the Gulf could destabilize the wider region economically and politically.

Meanwhile, reports suggest tensions are increasing between Trump and Netanyahu over whether diplomacy with Iran should continue. Axios reported that a new peace proposal drafted with support from Pakistan and Qatar triggered a difficult phone call between the two leaders, with Netanyahu reportedly opposing any agreement that falls short of dismantling Iran’s military and nuclear capabilities. Trump, however, is said to favor giving negotiations more time after pressure from Gulf allies and warnings about the economic impact of another escalation. Iranian officials have also warned that renewed attacks by the US or Israel would cause the conflict to spread far beyond West Asia, increasing fears of a broader international crisis involving energy routes and regional militias.

The growing role of Pakistan in mediation efforts and the reported strain between Trump and Netanyahu underline how fragile the current ceasefire remains despite ongoing diplomacy. As negotiations continue behind closed doors, the coming days are expected to determine whether the region moves toward a broader settlement or slides back into another dangerous phase of military escalation with global consequences.
