On Tuesday morning, nearly 150-200 people across northwest Delhi experienced symptoms like vomiting and uneasiness after consuming kuttu atta (buckwheat flour).The first reports of illness came in around 6:10 AM from Jahangirpuri, with others affected from Mahendra Park, Samaypur, Bhalswa Dairy, Lal Bagh, and Swaroop Nagar. Patients were taken to the emergency ward at BJRM Hospital, Jahangirpuri.
Dr. Vishesh Yadav, Chief Medical Officer, said that all affected individuals are stable, none required admission, and no case is serious. Authorities suspect the flour may have been adulterated or contaminated. The Food Department has been alerted and a detailed investigation into the source and quality of the buckwheat flour is underway. Meanwhile, local police used loudspeakers in the affected areas to warn shopkeepers, vendors, and residents about the flour’s quality.
The incident has caused concern especially since kuttu atta is in high demand during the ongoing Navratri fasting period.
