The upcoming vice presidential election will see only two names on the final ballot after the nomination process went through scrutiny. Out of a total of 46 individuals who had filed their papers, only CP Radhakrishnan and Sudershan Reddy met the required conditions laid down by the Election Commission.
According to officials, the majority of the applications were either incomplete or failed to meet the necessary eligibility rules. The scrutiny process, carried out by election authorities, filtered out the rest, leaving just two contenders in the race.
With the stage now set, political attention has shifted toward the campaign strategies of the cleared candidates. Both Radhakrishnan and Reddy are expected to seek wider support from members of Parliament, as the vice president is elected by an electoral college consisting of MPs from both houses.
The election will decide who succeeds the current vice president, with voting scheduled to take place in the coming weeks.
