Noida, August 23 — A shocking dowry-related incident has come to light in Noida, where a 32-year-old woman was allegedly set ablaze by her in-laws over a demand of ₹36 lakh. Police said the victim sustained severe burn injuries and is undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
According to the woman’s family, her husband and in-laws had been pressuring her for the money and resorted to violence when the demand was not met. A case has been registered under sections related to dowry harassment and attempt to murder.
However, the husband has denied the charges, claiming that his wife set herself on fire following a domestic dispute. Investigators are examining both versions, while statements from neighbours and relatives are being recorded.
Authorities said strict action would be taken once the probe confirms the sequence of events. The incident has once again put the spotlight on dowry-linked violence, which continues to claim lives across parts of India despite strict laws.
