Ananya Lohia , New Delhi - More than 20 lakh medical aspirants appeared for the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination on Sunday under tight security arrangements across India and abroad. The retest was conducted following allegations of a question paper leak in the May 3 exam.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) organised the re-exam at 5,440 centres in India and 14 overseas locations. According to officials, nearly 21 lakh candidates downloaded admit cards and over 20 lakh appeared for the examination. NTA Director General Abhishek Singh said the agency was confident about the security measures and had not received any leak-related complaints so far.
Around 7 lakh officials, including police personnel and observers, were deployed to ensure smooth conduct of the examination. Students described Biology as relatively easy, while Physics emerged as the toughest and most time-consuming section. Special arrangements were made for over 10,000 candidates with disabilities and several students with serious medical conditions, including those undergoing treatment.
With the re-examination completed successfully, NTA is expected to begin the evaluation process soon. Officials have indicated that results may be announced faster than usual due to the compressed examination schedule.
