Ananya Lohia , New Delhi - Two-time Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra won the silver medal in the men's javelin throw at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, sparking celebrations in his hometown of Khandra village in Haryana's Panipat district. Family members and villagers gathered to watch the event and celebrated the achievement with fireworks and sweets.

Neeraj recorded a season-best throw of 85.83m on his second attempt, improving on his previous best of 85.69m set at the Doha Diamond League. However, Sri Lanka's Rumesh Pathiraje claimed the gold medal with a throw of 89.75m, while India's Yashvir Singh secured bronze with 85.41m.

Neeraj's father, Satish Chopra, expressed pride in his son's achievement despite hoping for gold. His uncle, Bheem Chopra, said strong winds, recent injury concerns and the pressure of competition affected Neeraj's performance. After the event, Neeraj praised fellow Indian throwers, saying the country's javelin standards continue to rise.

Despite missing out on gold, Neeraj's silver added another major international medal to his career, while India's double podium finish underlined the country's growing dominance in men's javelin throw.
