Ananya Lohia , Kolkata - The Indian Navy will commission three indigenously built frontline platforms — Dunagiri, Sanshodhak and Agray — in Kolkata on Sunday, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi presiding over the ceremony.
Built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers, the three platforms represent key capabilities in maritime combat, hydrographic surveying and anti-submarine warfare. Designed by the Indian Navy's Warship Design Bureau, the vessels are expected to strengthen India's maritime security and operational readiness. Dunagiri, the fifth Project 17A stealth frigate, is equipped with advanced weapons and sensors, including BrahMos missiles and a medium-range surface-to-air missile system.
Sanshodhak is designed for coastal and deep-water surveys and carries advanced systems such as autonomous and remotely operated underwater vehicles. Agray, an Arnala-class anti-submarine warfare craft, is equipped with torpedoes, indigenous rocket launchers and sonar systems to counter underwater threats. The Navy said the platforms have more than 75 per cent indigenous content and were built with the participation of over 200 MSMEs, highlighting the growth of India's domestic defence manufacturing sector.
The commissioning of the three platforms marks a significant boost to India's naval capabilities and underscores the country's push towards self-reliance in defence production and maritime security.
