Ananya Lohia , New Delhi - India observed Kargil Vijay Diwas on Sunday, marking the 27th anniversary of the country's victory in the 1999 Kargil War. President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several political leaders paid tribute to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during Operation Vijay.
A wreath-laying ceremony, Shradhanjali Samaroh, was held at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass, Ladakh, to honour the fallen soldiers. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh attended the event and addressed soldiers and veterans, remembering the courage and sacrifice of the armed forces during the conflict.
In separate messages, President Murmu and Prime Minister Modi said the nation would remain forever grateful to the brave soldiers whose courage and patriotism continue to inspire generations. Leaders across party lines, including Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Yogi Adityanath and N. Chandrababu Naidu, also paid homage to the Kargil heroes.
Observed every year on July 26, Kargil Vijay Diwas commemorates India's victory in the 1999 Kargil War and honours the unmatched bravery and sacrifice of the armed forces.
