Mumbai and its surrounding districts were hit by severe rainfall on Monday, triggering widespread waterlogging, traffic chaos, and disruptions to train services. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Mumbai, Thane and Raigad, forecasting very heavy rainfall with thunderstorms

Low-lying and coastal regions bore the worst of it. Key trouble spots included Andheri subway (where 1 to 1.5 feet of water accumulated), Trombay-Mankhurd railway track tunnels, and various areas in Sion, Dadar, Matunga, Lalbaug, Kurla, Worli, Parel etc.  Local trains experienced delays or cancellations.

In Pune district, a heavy downpour caused flooding in villages; about 60-70 people were evacuated as drainage overflowed. Schools in Hadapsar declared a holiday.  Meanwhile, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) urged people to avoid low-lying and coastal areas.

An orange alert remains in force for Palghar, Pune, Ahilyanagar, Beed, while the rest of Maharashtra may see lighter showers or dry spells after this.
