Swapna Kumbar , Bengaluru - The southwest monsoon has intensified across Kerala, bringing heavy rainfall to multiple districts and disrupting normal life in several areas. In response to the worsening weather conditions, the India Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Ernakulam, warning residents of intense rainfall and possible localized flooding.
According to the IMD, the orange alert was issued for a three hour period as strong monsoon activity triggered heavy downpours across central Kerala. Several low-lying areas reported waterlogging, while authorities closely monitored rivers, canals, and vulnerable locations prone to flooding. Residents were advised to remain cautious, particularly in areas susceptible to landslides, flash floods, and traffic disruptions. Emergency response teams and local administrations were also placed on alert to handle any weather-related incidents.
Meteorologists expect monsoon activity to remain active over Kerala in the coming days, with intermittent spells of heavy to very heavy rainfall likely in several districts. The fresh showers are expected to provide relief from summer heat but could also increase the risk of flooding, tree falls, and transportation disruptions. Authorities have urged fishermen, travelers, and residents in vulnerable regions to follow official advisories and weather updates closely.
As the monsoon strengthens its grip over Kerala, authorities are maintaining heightened vigilance to minimize risks associated with heavy rainfall. With more rain forecast in the days ahead, residents are being encouraged to stay prepared and monitor weather warnings issued by the IMD.
