Desk Correspondent , Islamabad - The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has categorically ended days of intense speculation, confirming that it will not boycott the 2026 T20 World Cup in solidarity with Bangladesh. Despite earlier reports from Pakistani outlets suggesting that Chairman Mohsin Naqvi had ordered a halt to team training, senior PCB sources have now clarified that such claims were "baseless" and intended to "inflame the ongoing issue." The board emphasized that Pakistan has no legal or sporting grounds to withdraw from the marquee event, which is set to begin on February 7, 2026.

The logic behind the PCB's firm stance is rooted in a pre-tournament agreement reached in early 2025. Following India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, the ICC arranged for all of Pakistan’s T20 World Cup matches to be held in Sri Lanka. "Pakistan don’t have any grounds to boycott, because the ICC would point out that we are already playing our matches at a neutral venue in Sri Lanka," a senior board official stated. This arrangement effectively insulates the Pakistani squad from the "safety and security" concerns cited by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) regarding venues in India.

The standoff began after the BCCI instructed the Kolkata Knight Riders to release Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman, prompting the BCB to request a venue shift for their group matches in Mumbai and Kolkata. While Pakistan has expressed "principled support" for Bangladesh’s security concerns, the PCB is unwilling to risk the severe financial penalties and ICC sanctions that would follow a withdrawal. As the January 21 deadline for Bangladesh's final decision looms, Pakistan has shifted its focus back to the field, ensuring the tournament narrative remains centered on cricket rather than a multi-board political confrontation.
