Modi Promises Tough Anti Paper Leak Law As Govt Opens Talks With CJP

Ananya Lohia , New Delhi - Amid escalating protests over the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday announced a proposed law to curb examination paper leaks, including fast-track courts and stricter punishment for those found guilty.

In a video message, PM Modi said the draft bill would be discussed by the Union Cabinet on Friday evening before being introduced in Parliament. He said several accused had already been arrested and stressed that the government's priority was to ensure students did not lose an academic year by conducting a re-examination for over 22 lakh candidates. He asserted that those trying to destroy the future of young people would face strict action.

Meanwhile, the Centre is set to hold fresh talks with the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), which has been leading protests at Delhi's Jantar Mantar. The CJP, however, reiterated that its key demand remains the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also criticised the government's response, while thousands of protesters continued demonstrations despite heavy police deployment and restrictions in the national capital.

With Cabinet discussions on the proposed bill and fresh talks between the government and the CJP, all eyes are now on whether the ongoing standoff over the paper leak controversy can be resolved.
