Ranit Kr. Singh , Kolkata - Actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty arrived in Cooch Behar on Thursday to inspect the local cancer hospital, keeping his pre-election promise to revamp the long-neglected facility. Following the formation of the new government, Chakraborty visited the site to evaluate its current state. Upon his arrival at the Cooch Behar Circuit House, he was warmly welcomed and felicitated by the local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) district leadership.
The cancer hospital had been in a dilapidated condition for a long time, prompting concerns over regional healthcare. During an election rally held in Cooch Behar prior to the assembly polls, Chakraborty highlighted his deep personal connection to the facility, revealing that he had previously raised public donations to help establish it. Expressing distress over its current state of neglect, he vowed to return after the elections and promised to spearhead another crowdfunding campaign if necessary to fully renovate and modernise the hospital.
Local BJP leaders expressed immense satisfaction with the visit, stating that the actor-politician has proven himself to be a man of his word. They emphasized that Chakraborty's direct involvement will breathe new life into the healthcare project and significantly benefit the residents of North Bengal. The district leadership further noted that concrete plans would soon be drawn up to restore the facility to its full operational glory under the guidance of the newly formed administration.
