Desk Correspondent , Lucknow – Fifty-year-old advocate Rajiv Singh, was shot dead by two assailants in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday morning. The former village head from Devari village, residing in Sadbhavna Nagar colony in Katwaru Ka Pura, was attacked near the Sadbhavna Nagar intersection while returning home from his routine morning walk. One assailant on a motorcycle fired a country-made pistol at his chest, and Singh was rushed to the divisional hospital where he was declared dead. Police investigations suggests that the incident was triggered by a dispute over village-related issues. The family of the deceased has filed an FIR naming the accused.
The assailants flee the scene on their motorcycle immediately after the shooting, which was captured on local CCTV cameras. Police officials stated that Singh had been living in the colony for several years. Superintendent of Police Aparna Rajat Kaushik confirmed that a case has been registered on the basis of a complaint by the deceased's family members and vowed that the accused will be arrested soon. No arrests have been made as yet, with the investigation still ongoing and more evidence is being gathered from the footage.
The incident has sparked concerns among residents regarding their safety during mundane activities in the area. Although no further details about Singh's legal career or any previous conflicts were mentioned in preliminary investigation, Authorities are now prioritizing the analysis of CCTV evidence and tracing the motorcycle to identify the two assailants swiftly. This case highlights the police commitment to ensuring quick justice and maintaining law and order in Mirzapur district.
